Singapore NDP fireworks 2011

Our family went to the Marina Bay over the past two Saturdays to watch the NDP rehearsals and the fireworks. I decided to work on a home video to celebrate our National Day. Some of the video footages were taken at different times of the year which include our family, friends and neighbours. Most of the video footages were filmed at Marina Bay Sand Waterfront Boardwalk and Esplanade Waterfront Promenade. These are two spots where you can view some of the NDP activities close-up and the fireworks. Of course, there are other spots such as Marina Boulevard, Helix bridge, Esplanade Bridge, Merlion Park and Clifford Pier. I chose the music HOME, performed by Kit Chan and composed by Dick Lee as I felt this is one of the best NDP theme songs that really connects us to being a Singaporean.

Here is the video of the NDP previews and the fireworks 2011.

Flying Kites

Each time when we drove past the Singapore Sports School along the SLE during weekends in the evening, we saw many kites flying in the sky. Our curiosity got the better of us and we decided to go to the site where all the kite-lovers gathered.

Indeed, many adults and young children were flying the kites at the large open space last Saturday. We were amazed to see many diferent types of kites flying in the sky.

Our kids, as usual, ran about in the open field. To us. it was more like a recce trip for a new activitiy to come for our kids.

Grand Mercure Hotel

Kids love holidays. During the short 1-week March holidays, we spent an evening at Grand Mercure Hotel at East Coast Road. It was a nice and decent hotel which had all the basic amenities. The “must-have” for our children were swimming pool and bathtub which our kids really enjoyed. Right opposite the hotel was Parkway Parade where we shopped and dined.

River Hong Bao

We went to the River Hong Bao which was held at The Float@ Marina Bay on the 3rd day of Lunar New Year. It was a great place to host such event. There were good varieties of displays such as the god of fortune, the chinese zodiac lanterns, the Panda playground and the Tiger mountain. We visited several cultural stalls such as the chinese handicrafts  and the calligraphy.  One of the key highlights was the showcase of the unique delicacies from Chengdu. Needless to say, these food stalls were extremely popular and crowded. We spent more than an hour to browse the stalls and enjoy the atmosphere. Quite an achievement for a family with 3 young kids.

Mini chinatown in Bishan

Tired of jostling with the crowd at Chinatown? We heard from our friends that a mega-scale bazaar was setup in Bishan for our New Year shoppings. We decided to find out last weekend. From what we observed, there weren’t many active stalls though the organiser had set aside a fairly large space. The crowd was moderate so the place was quite comfortable for shoppings. What excited the kids was not the new year goodies displayed but the mini theme park that was set up on the plot next to the bazaar. We let our kids to ride the train and they really enjoyed it. That was enough to make our day.

Underwater World Singapore

Our young kids enjoyed watching colourful and beautiful fishes. We spent one whole afternoon at the underwater world in Sentosa. We managed to take a few video shots of the staff feeding the fishes and the sharks. It was a great fun and education for the kids.

Resorts World Sentosa

Our family visited the Resorts World Sentosa on 27 Jan 2010.  We wanted to have a glimpse of what was inside the Resorts World. We went during the weekday so it was not too crowded. The entry fee of the car to Sentosa was still $2. Our kids played at the beach for about an hour before we took the free shuttle bus to the Resorts World. The bus operated at about 15 min interval and ended at 6pm.

At the Resorts World, there are 6 hotels: Hard Rock, Festive Hotel, Hotel Michael, Crockfords Hotel, Equarius Hotel and Spa Villa. We spent most of the time at Hard Rock. There we met a very helpful staff who showed us the hotel rooms, the standard and the suite. Wow, the room interior decoration was very cosy and nice and, of course, with Hard Rock flavour.  We were told that the rooms are fully booked until May 2010 at promotional rates. But during this period, some of the facilities are not open yet.

We went to see the casino which is still not open but there were many Resorts World staffs doing trial runs to test the system.

While the Universal Studios and other attractions are still not open, it was still a good afternoon trip to roam around at the resorts world.

Chinatown

About two weeks ago, we went to Chinatown on Saturday late afternoon.  The children enjoyed the festive atmosphere while we bought some festive goodies. We enjoyed the leisurely pace at Chinatown and browsed many stalls. Unexpectedly, we met our good old friends at the food stall.
